Dehydrated skin and dry skin? Does it sound like the same issue?
It is not, my dear readers.
When you have dry skin it’s because of the lack of oil in the skin.
When you have dehydrated skin it’s because you don’t moisturise enough or you don’t have enough water in your skin.
Dry skin
Lack of oil is one reason for dry skin, but it can also be a genetical issue.
When the skin has proteins, lipids and water the skin looks more soft, flexible and elastic.
The skin has its own hydration system together with naturally lipids in the skin.
The natural factors work to keep the skin surface moist.
When you use body showers with alcohol and astringents, you can cause an imbalance in the hydration system of the skin that will leave it dry and irritated.
Dehydrated skin
The lack of moisture causes dehydrated skin.
When the skin doesn’t have enough water you can see more wrinkles. It also appears loose and red. If you clean your skin too often it will become more dehydrated.
How should you hydrate your skin ?
If you have a dry or dehydrated skin, you should use milky cleansers or even oil based cleansers.
There is no cure for dry skin, but you can help it by hydrating correctly.
Products that contain lipids like Fatty acids, cholesterol and ceramides will help your skin. These products will help retain the water and prevent water evaporation on the skin.
